We require 5 Peer Group Facilitators to participate on an advisory committee, develop a curriculum and co-facilitate a support group for women who have experienced violence for 12 weeks. We are looking for a peer facilitator whom have lived experience and self-identifies in the following areas:
  • Undocumented Women
  • Consumer Survivors/Survivors of the Psychiatric System
  • Indigenous Women
  • Women with Disabilities
  • Women who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing

Responsibilities:
  • Design a comprehensive curriculum for the 12-week support group.
  • Promote and recruit participants for the support group.
  • Lead facilitator for a 12-week support group to women who have experienced violence from a feminist anti-racism, anti-oppression framework.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of the program.
  • When needed assist women in assessing what services they require and support them to access those services.
  • Utilize computer software including case management database system, Microsoft applications as required.
  • Maintain appropriate and accurate file documentation and uphold the confidentiality of clients’ files, subject to legal and policy parameters.
  • Work in accordance with Interim Place’s Mission, Vision and Values.
  • As required, actively engage in agency events, social justice activities and other related community work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned for the effective operation of Interim Place.

Qualifications
    • Knowledge of sexual violence, gender-based violence and intersectional feminism. Must have experience and/or training with crisis intervention, support, and/or advocacy with survivors of gender based-violence.
    • Knowledge on Mad Studies and Sanism.
    • Knowledge on systemic barriers for women who have experienced violence and who are Deaf, deafened and hard of hearing or women who have disabilities.
    • Knowledge of structural racism and systemic barriers for undocumented women.
    • Excellent group facilitation skills.
    • University or college education in a related field, such as Aboriginal Studies, Gender and Women’s Studies, Sociology, Social Justice, Disabilities Studies, Assaulted Women’s and Children’s Program or the equivalent in education and extensive experience.
    • Previous experience using a feminist, anti-oppression, intersectional, decolonizing approach in providing direct services to women, trans, non-binary and Two-Spirit survivors of sexualized violence and/or violence in relationships.
    • Strong knowledge and experience with Harm Reduction Strategies.
    • Demonstrated experience in crisis support skills.
    • Professional communication skills; dedicated to team building.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Ability to work flexible hours.
    • 2nd language an asset.
    • ASL is an asset.
    • Current CPR and First Aid training is an asset.
